The most basic means of capturing what is displayed on your screen is to press the Print Screen button and then paste the image in a photo editor. But chances are that you don’t want to go with the most basic of approaches. So if you want a more convenient and efficient means of capturing what’s on your screen, try the Horizon33 screen capture utility. With it, you can capture the full screen, an active window, a rectangular area, an object, a fixed region, or capture freehand.

2.8MB is the size of the Horizon33 installation file. Run the file to install Horizon33 on a Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7-powered computer. A very simple installation wizard will guide you through the process and you will be done in very little time.

There is not much to see on Horizon33’s interface. In the upper left hand corner, there’s the Settings button; from the Settings menu you can pick the output type (PNG, BMP, GIF, JPEG), where the output will be saved, if you want to add a watermark to the output, what name the output will have, you can change the hotkeys, and more. In the bottom part of the interface there’s a menu that lets you choose the screen capture mode (full screen, active window, rectangular region, object, fixed region, freehand) and access some output and effects options. The biggest button on the interface is the Capture button. Hit it and Horizon33 will capture whatever is displayed on your screen.

You never know when you need to access the functionality provided by Horizon33. That is why the application minimizes to the system tray and sits there patiently waiting for you to launch the screen capture tool.

Horizon33 is freeware. Cons:
None that I could think of.

Pros

Horizon33 provides support for XP, Vista, and Windows 7. The interface is very simple. There are multiple screen capture modes to choose from. Hotkeys are supported. You can disable the sound Horizon33 plays when it takes a screenshot. Watermark, resize, change the color of the output. Horizon33 is freeware.

Cons

ider making a donation to the support Horizon33’s development if you enjoy using the application. Horizon33 has a lot going on in its favor: it is quite easy to use, provides multiple screen capture modes, you can save the output as multiple formats, you can add a watermark to the output, you can apply several effects, you can use hotkeys, and you don’t have to part with your money to use the application. Even the sound the application plays when it takes a screenshot is nice.
